PROGRAMS AND POLICIES

TOBIN AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS

At the Tobin Afterschool Program we provide a warm, enriching environment for your child. Children are provided nutritious snacks in the afternoon, and mid-morning if they are in attendance. After snack, children have the opportunity to select from many different choices each day. Generally children have two choices each day. Some of these choices include art, drama, sports, computers, block building, games, craft-making, clubs (writing, speech, travel, cultural, homework). In addition, children have the option of a variety of on and off site classes including: gymnastics, dance, Tae Kwon Do, Computer, Spanish, Sign Language and more.

On early release, snow days and vacation days we often make available pizza lunches and may include a specialist visitor; puppeteer, musician, storyteller, or plan an optional local, safe and appropriate field trip.

AVAILABLE PROGRAMS

Parents may elect a one, two, three, four, or five day program. Once a schedule is chosen, parents will be required to sign a contract for the full school year. (In Westwood, as the early release day falls on the same day, parents may not enroll for only that one day.) Children are encouraged to experiment and learn on a daily basis from the many developmentally appropriate experiences provided by their teachers. Teachers and parents work together on specific goals for individual children. Plans are made to assist each child in the development of these goals. We welcome and encourage parent involvement.

PARENT MEETINGS

Several times a year we make available times for parents to meet as a group with the director and the executive director to discuss general issues pertaining to the program. In addition, we make available parent discussion groups as needed, with our licensed social worker consultant.

OPEN DOOR POLICY

Parents of children enrolled in the program are welcome anytime they choose to visit. We encourage visits whenever possible. For security reasons parents not yet enrolled must make an appointment before visiting.

SNOW DAY POLICY

The schools will make every effort to remain open during inclement weather. In the event that we need to delay an opening or close for the day, a message will be left on the schools voice mail. To confirm the delay/closure please call your respective school. If your school needs to close early, you will be contacted through your emergency numbers.

The schools reserve the right to close at the direct discretion of the Executive Director. This decision would be based upon careful consideration of all health and safety circumstances specific to the reason for closure.

The Department of Early Education and Care requires the schools to close for the following reasons:

  • No heat

  • No power

  • No telephone

  • Loss of water

State of Emergency: The schools will normally be closed during an official "State of Emergency", unless all state workers are requested to report to work.

If non-essential employees are sent home or requested to not report to work, it will be deemed necessary to not open, close for the remainder of the day, or delay an opening.

Exception: If a "State of Emergency" is in effect, BUT public schools in our school's respective town is open, our school will be open for the day.

Procedure: A message that is date and time accurate will be posted to the school voice mail for status update messages.

For Tobin Afterschool Programs: Tobin Afterschool programs will close if any of the above circumstances apply. Tobin Afterschool programs will be open if the school system in that particular town is open.
